Bonco

After a career as a fashion photographer in New York, Bonco discovered painting and sculpture while completing his MFA at the University of Auckland. With an interest in the grid as a “symbolist window”,  a concept first introduced by Rosalind Krauss, he extends this to examine society and its roles. His work hopes to examine the possibility that we are not necessarily confined to a “box” or set of labels, whether related to gender, race or socio-economic background, and that individually we hold much of the power in relation to how we chose to interact and shape the world. By using the grid as a proxy for society and then subverting it, he is hoping to draw attention to it’s “unseen” structure.

Bonco added his artistic mark to our truck's public participatory artwork.
